In the book Genius Squad by Catherine Jinks there are many characters. Some play large rolls and some play smaller ones, and sometimes a character with a small roll is very important to a book. I think that one of such characters can be found in this book. His goes by Mace and he is found in the begging of the book living in a foster home with Cadel. (the main character of the book) For reasons never really explained in the book Mace hates Cadel. He vandalizes Cadel’s possessions, like pouring lemonade into a computer monitor Cadel found, then claims that he was “just kidding” and was only joking. Eventually Cadel’s social worker and his detective, who has been assigned to protect Cadel, decide that it is not fit for him to live in that foster home any more and that eventually leads to him becoming involved with the “Genius Squad” and moving to a new home called Clearview House. That is why i believe that Mace is a minor charicter who plays an important role in the book.

I read the book Epic by Conor Kostic. It is about a plant called New Earth that was colonized after the ancestors of the residents flew from Earth for fear of Earth being engulfed by war and destroying itself in the process. On the planet there is no violence whatsoever because if someone commits an act of violence they are essentially exiled to an island where there are no rules or government. The conflicts on the planet are solved on a computer game known as Epic. Every citizen plays it from the moment they can handle the game to the moment they are too old. The citizens lives depend on their success in the game. If your character is wealthy, you are wealthy. However if your character dies or looses their money or possessions then you become worthless. When people are unsatisfied with something then they file a complaint with a group called Central Allocations. However, for the complaint to be considered they have to beat a player from the Central Allocations team, the most successful players in the game, and risk loosing all of their wealth. I rated this book a 9 out of 10. I would give it that rating because of its unique premise, and interesting story. The premise of the book is very unique as I described earlier in the post. I enjoy books that do not folow the “status quo” for topics. I would not suggest the book for anyone who isn’t a fan of Science Fiction as I am, because the theme of the book is very science fiction. I also liked the books interesting story line. It involves a group of teenagers from a small district on the planet who defeat the “Red Dragon” and almost instantly become the most wealthy players on the game. They decide to use their new wealth to bring down the Central Allocations team and end their rule over New Earth.

There are many conflicts found within this book, but their are two major ones. The first thing that you need to know is that this book is about a super race called Elites who rule the world. However they believe that the Human race is a worthless race destine to destroy Earth unless something is done about them. That brings us to our first conflict. An external conflict between the Elites and the Humans. The Elites have planned an event called 7-4 day a holocaust style elimination of the entire human race. However the humans aren’t as defenseless as the Elites think the are.

The second conflict takes place with our main character Hays Baker. He spends his entire life thinking he is an Elite. Only to one day find out that he is a highly modified human. Suddenly he becomes the Elites main target and looses his old life. He has to accept his new life but he finds it hard to give up he perfect life as an Elite. That makes this conflict an internal conflict.

I would recommend this book strictly for ages 13+ because of some more Adult Content

The book Conspiracy 365: January, by Gabrielle Lord, is about a boy named Callum who on December 31 is given a message from an old sickly man being chased by paramedics. He says “They killed your father. Their killing me! You must go into hiding until December 31 next year.” Cal is then thrust into a world of drawings and miseries he never knew existed. Then he gets framed for a crime he didn’t commit and is forced to run from not only many gangs looking for knowledge about something he doesn’t know about but also from the authorities.

I liked the books writing it was filled with good action and many surprises in the plot. The book was a fast read being only about 200 pages it took me about a day to read. The one thing I don’t like is the fact that the series is divided into 12 short books where it could be 4 or 5 average length books.

Overall I liked the book. It had its good portions and ill definitely continue the series.

I would recomend the book to anyone. The book had great action that made me wonder how they fit it all into one book. The second reason would be because of the mystery plotline with great twists and turns. The third reason would be for the books unique style and plot that I have never seen before.

The book Brisingr by Christopher Paolini, is the third book in the inheritance series. The basis of the book is that the dwarfs society is falling apart because they do not have a ruler. The tension only causes trouble for the Varden and Eragon as he and Saphira, his dragon, must bring the Varden forces back together in order to take down evil king Galbitorix, who is also a dragon rider.

The author for the book did a great job with the story. Although the book has some of its more gory parts and also some slow parts too I found that I cared about the characters and their safety. I was drawn into the story line and could see the characters coming to life in the pages of the book. Over all I really loved the book and the entire series. Though with the release of this book readers have been told that the series will no longer be a trilogy. The book was great it made me feel the characters emotions. Whether it be happy or sad, mad or angry Christopher Paolini did a great job of portraying how the characters felt.

I would with out a doubt recommend this book to anyone. The writing was incredible. It made it feel like I was there watching the events of the book alongside the characters. The book also had a great storyline. The book took many twists and turns with many unexpected events throught the plot. The third reason is for the series. I’ve read the books Eragon, and Eldest in the series and loved them both. Brisingr is the third in the series.I can’t wait for the fourth book.

This quarter I started by reading the book Eldest by Christopher Paolini. The second in the Inheritance series. The book Eldest is about a boy named Eragon; who, after the first book in the series, finds himself on the front lines of a rebel army. After defeating the an army of Urgals, Eragon is sent to the elven city of Duweldenvarden to finish his training as a dragon rider, so he can defeat the evil king Galbitorix and bring his endless reign to an end.

The writing in the book Eldest, and the entire Inheritance series is great. I found myself drawn into the charicters emotions and the great dialouge. I would read for what felt like just a few minutes and ended up being a few hours. Eldset ended up being a book that I truly could not put down. Overall I really loved the book. It is one of the longest books I’ve ever read and I ended up finishing it over the course of one four day weekend. The book was a mix of action, sorrow and happyness. A book that, again, I truly could not put down.

I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone. But make sure you read the first book in the series entitled Eragon. This is because of three main reasons. The books great dialogue pulls you in to the characters emotions and way of thinking. Another reason is because of the action and suspence that makes the book a great read. The third reason is that the entire series is great and is definantly one to read.

My extended family owns a house on Lake Michigan, in the town of Lakeside. We all share it. One year when we first stepped into the water the ground felt like slime. We grabbed a handful of the material and noticed it was clay. This was an example of erosion because all of the sand on the bottom had been moved away leaving the slimy clay on the bottom exposed.

In class we have been learning about volcanoes recently. Then we watched a video about Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. We were asked to relate two concepts we have learned to the movie.

Pompeii spewed ash and rock and also pyroclastic material. The video also said that in other times the volcano has erupted lava so that means that volcano has to be a stratovolcano. We also learned about all of the types of volcanic rock. In the video they said that it was “raining” small chunks of pumice. Pumice is a rock that is formed by lava cooling in mid air and it is so light and in-dense that it floats in water and was almost harmless when it fell on the people. The problem was that mixed in with the pumice were volcanic bombs. They were large enough to kill a man if they fell on you.
